Fabulous FAIR Friday!

If you live within photoshooting distance from us, you know the Iowa State Fair is going on right now. What a great place to spend some time (and $$) this weekend!

No time (or $$) for the Iowa State Fair -- or you live far away from us?  Deb here suggesting four more 'fairs' to consider this weekend.  Pull up TCM on your cable station (yes, the old-movie station), butter some popcorn and enjoy!

My Fair Lady (1964)
This isn't a fair movie -- it's a GREAT movie.  Audrey Hepburn at her BEST in this classic, intelligent, witty musical!  And the costumes & hats are super-photo-worthy!

This is a movie about the Iowa State Fair so it has to make the list.
Trivia buffs:  What was the name of the big boar in the movie?
Trivia Answer:  Blueboy -- and he was love-sick.

Jean Simmons looking for her missing brother at the 1889 Paris Exhibition.  This movie is on my to-watch list and it gets high marks from others that love a good mystery.

A FAVORITE of mine!  I've watched it at least 20 times -- mostly with the grandkids (often with Grandpa too).  Judy Garland sings her way through the seasons.  Literally, the seasons:  The movie is four little vignettes representing summer, fall (our favorite), winter, spring.
The climax (sort of):  The 1904 St Louis World's Fair.

Happy Fairing!

Fresh & Fun Wednesday | Wedding Bells and Christmas in July

Hey guys!!!  Okay, seriously, have you BEEN outside?  If you are local, you will know that we have FINALLY had some relief from the horrendously hot days and have had some beautiful weather!!!  Yesterday as I was running I saw SO many bikers on Ragbrai!  Did any of you bike it?   It has been awesome weather for it!!!

So here at Urban Wings we have been CA-RA-ZAY busy!!! Seriously, it SO awesome to be busy, no complaints here!!!  And I love all the variety we have had lately!  One year old cake smashes, weddings to shoot, senior pics coming up this next week, school photos, new website changes, and more website changes to come, collages, photo books, marketing material, and MORE!

These last few weeks we have had the privilege of celebrating a first birthday with a little one, with a one year old cake smash session!   HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUDSON!!!!

We have also been getting new equipment (woo hoo!), shooting family photos and getting ready for a wedding shoot this weekend!
We also did a small site redesign to update some outdated pics and information!!!  I hope you guys will check it out!!!  I wanted to note that we have made the decision to offer digital packages now!!!  AWESOME!!!  So now if you want your ENTIRE photosession on disk, that is available!

I will say, you will probably notice quite a bit more site updates and changes in the next few months!  We are going to do some major construction in there soon and we are SOOOOO excited about it!!!  More updates on that soon!!!

DESIGN FRESH & FUN

Jingle bells, jingle bells.....YES, it is THAT time of year....NO, not ACTUAL Christmas!  But CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!!  And boy do the girls over at the Creative Pixel have some great sales and challenges ready for you!!!  Come join in on all the fun there!!!  Here are some Christmas packs we have popping into the Creative Pixel store!!!

So give us a call and schedule your photosessions for fall!  We are open for taking appointments!!!  And if you are looking for a custom photo project, we would love to talk to you more about that!  We have been working on custom wall canvases and photo books for our own photography clients AND for some that live to far away to have a photo session with us, but wanted their own photos put in an awesome collage for canvas or photo book!  We can help you with that!!!  We would love to hear from you!!!

Come say HI on Facebook!  Hope you all are having an awesome Wednesday!!!!

Five Free Fabulous Things To Do This Weekend

Deb here to share Five FREE (& possibly obscure) Things To Do in the Des Moines metro area this weekend.

5.  Starting with the obscure:  Worm races this afternoon at the Grimes Library!  No kidding.  But you have to make a reservation so pick up the phone and call.  All the details here

4.  How about something practical?  Metro Waste Authority is holding a hazardous waste drop-off at Valley Stadium on Saturday morning.  Here is a list of the things you can and can't bring -- along with a map to the location.

3. Our list wouldn't be complete for this weekend if we didn't mention the FABULOUS Des Moines Art Festival. Click here for the hours (all weekend), location and details on lots of free shows.

2.  As we enter a week of celebrating our nation's independence, here is a special way to remember our state's fallen heroes from the war on terror.  Scheel's at Jordan Creek is the current site for a memorial sponsored by Bellevue University.  Remembering Our Fallen is on display all weekend.   More details here.

1.  Finally cap off the weekend and get an early start to the 4th with music and fireworks.   Sunday evening.  Jordan Creek Amphitheater.  All about it here
